Women With Migraines Are More Predisposed To To Suffer From Depression
Woman suffering from chronic headache, especially migraine disorder, are in a greater number prone to suffer from depression, feel worn-out, and have a host of other bad physical symptoms, according to a clinical research published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
The clinical investigation involved 1600 people who buy citalopram at headache clinics in four countries. Of the patient tested, 343 reported episodic headache (less than 15 headaches monthly) and 887 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the people were diagnosed with migraines.
The clinical investigation found man with chronic headache were four times more likely than those with episodic headache to report symptoms of major Major Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also six times more prone to report a high degree of symptoms depended to headache, pain or puzzle during intercourse.
Among man diagnosed with severely disabling migraine, the medical research found the likelihood of major Manic Depression increased 32-fold if the patients also reported other severe symptoms.
“Painful physical symptoms should provoke or be a manifestation of major Major Depression in patients with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy topamax and Psychotic Depression should heighten pain perception,” said clinical study author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This link between migraine and major Major Depression suggests a ordinary neurobiology.”
Tietjen says study are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Manic Depression may be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.
“Heedless of what’s causing the link between migraine and Manic Depression, psychiatric disorder such as Major Depression complicates headache treatment and can excite poorer outcomes for headache treatment,” said Tietjen.
The medical trial was countenanced, in part, by the American Headache Society, which judges 18 million American patient are affected by headache.
The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 12000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to improving man care through instruction and medical investigation. A neurologist is a doctor specialized on monitoring, treating and managing disorders of the brain and nervous system such as stroke, Alzheimer’s disorder, epilepsy, Parkinson disease, and repeated sclerosis.
